Featured Artists:

Dave Petko: May Artist In Residence

Dave turned 53 recently and is still very much a kid at heart, making art and finding “play” in everything that he does. His main passion is painting and recently Dave created 14 new paintings for his second solo exhibit of 2022, which took place April to June, at the B1 Gallery in Vancouver, BC. Between 2019 and 2021 he created 31 paintings in preparation for a solo exhibition, which took place January to March, 2022 at The Gallery at the Arts Centre in Whistler, B.C.

Over the decades Dave's artistic style has evolved dramatically from abstract expressionism to pop-art inspired bold, bright and playful colour combinations with imaginative caricatures; to dark, edgy and apocalyptic graphic-inspired themes and more caricatures; to colourful graphic landscapes reminiscent of Whistler; to adorable genetically modified land, sea and air critters that splash, dance and float across the page.

Never the type of artist to take the easy way out and create the same thing repeatedly for years to come, where styles become stagnant and the viewer knows what to expect; Dave has been challenging his mind’s eye and expanding his creative vision with the curiosity and excitement of a kid in a candy store.

Brooke McAllister

Brooke McAllister is a photographer in North Vancouver who enjoys capturing a broad range of subjects. She has a special place in her heart for the geometry of the abstract and capturing honest moments while keeping an eye out for the humorous and out of place. Originally from California, she has lived her entire life on the west coast, making her way north from Ojai, Santa Cruz, Seattle and now Deep Cove - North Vancouver. Check out her website at brookaphotographic.com.

Garrett Andrew Chong

A fourth-generation Chinese-Canadian, Garrett Andrew Chong graduated with honours from ECUAD (Emily Carr University of Art and Design). The emotional intelligence of visual imaging developed into forms of expression in his early practice, particularly through photography. His recent explorations have evolved through spiritual influences, underscoring an attunement to natural forces. He has lived in the lower mainland for over five decades and his 89 Gore Avenue studio is located at The Edge Building in Railtown, Vancouver, BC since the late 90’s. You can visit her website at GarrettAndrewChong.com or on instagram @GarrettAndrewChong.Art.

Dominique Norville

She is a multi-disciplinary artist born and raised in Vancouver. Her work ranges from collage, drawing, and printmaking to assemblage and jewelry. Her art education includes a Diploma in Fine Arts (Honours), and she has exhibited in the Lower Mainland, Ontario, and the U.S. in solo, dual and group shows. She has a background in art therapy and is a strong believer in the transformative nature of the creative process. Her process is intuitive and involves moving from one mark to the next. It is often based on a colour family or intersection of patterns. It is from this process that a narrative usually evolves.  Narrative is integral to her process and development. Much of her work engages with a sense of location and searching for narrative through place, character and storytelling. Check out her work on instagram at @danorvil.

Ellen Balka

She is a  photographer and printmaker. She is inspired by the beauty and magic of natural and built landscapes. As a photographer she particularly enjoy using a still camera to create a sense of motion. Much of her printmaking is photographically based, although recently she’s been enjoying calligraphic printmaking as well. She has shown her work in Vancouver and the Sea to Sky Corridor.
